Application Fee and Security Deposit
As a participant in the program, your housing assistance payment will cover a portion of your rent. It will not cover any application fees, holding fees, security deposits, or moving fees.
Due to fair housing laws and protections, a landlord must require you to go through the same screening process as any other tenant applying for a unit. This process could consist of any of the following:
· Rental Application
· Application Fee
· Criminal Background Check
· Credit Check
· Holding Fee
· Security Deposit
You will want to ask the landlord at the beginning, which of these might apply so you can be as prepared as possible. If you cannot meet the screening requirements, it may be wise not to invest monies into this unit. If you cannot meet the financial requirements, there may be charitable programs available to assist, however, depending on additional programs to meet rental needs may become a disadvantage in a tight rental market where not many rental units are available.
